Things to do
The Old Vicarage NI is ideally situated for exploring any part of Northern Ireland – from the Glens of Antrim (Giants Causeway) to the Mountains of Mourne. Locally there is the historic village of Greyabbey, the Mount Stewart and Castle Ward Estates (National Trust), Exploris, Aquarium (Portaferry), the Titanic Experience and Game of Thrones filming sets and locations and many more attractions.
A perfect location
We are ideally situated to provide accommodation to wedding guests at nearby venue The Orange Tree House and conference/exhibition attendees. A local Taxi service is also available.
There are several renown golf courses locally where visitors will be made most welcome. There is an abundance of cycle routes here with canoe, kayaking and paddle board activities over on Strangford Lough and at the Marina in Bangor. We also provide safe and secure storage of sporting equipment including drying facilities for those damp days!
A film makers paradise
In addition to the vast number of interesting places to visit, Northern Ireland has now become the film makers ‘paradise’ with sets across the entire province.
All are producing excellent film and TV documentaries which are receiving much noterity and acclaim across the world.
For most people, ‘The Game of Thrones’ rings a bell. Filmed at multiple locations across Northern Ireland these locations on their own are proving to be major tourist attractions with people from far off continents visiting. The recent dramas for BBC – Line of Day and Bloodlands have compounded this interest.
The Old Vicarage Ni B&B has been party to this recent phenomena. In 2018 we played host for 6 x weeks to a BBC production filming team for a 3 x night drama called ‘Mrs Wilson’. This show starred Ruth Wilson playing the part of her real life grandmother and was based on a true story. Ruth has achieved stardom by her appearance in ‘Luther’, ‘His Dark Materials’ to name but a few. Along side Ruth was lian Glenn, another superb actor with many claims to fame including parts in Game of Thrones, and Tomb Raider to name only two.
We were very pleased to host both the crew and the actors and appreciated their best wishes for the business ahead.
In 2020 we were pleased to host a production team and actors for the comedy series ‘Soft Border Patrol’.
Our fully restored Grade B listed Edwardian detached seafront property continues to be a desirable location for film/drama productions and yet provides a top class bed & breakfast facility throughout the year.
